Trip to BBC Good Food Show
On Friday 25th November, 5 girls from sixth form set forth to visit the BBC Good Food show. Despite the hectic arrangements beforehand, we eventually managed to depart on the 2 ½ hour journey to the NEC in Birmingham. After a journey of (relevant academic) gossip, we reached our destination, and eagerly jumped out the car ready to go. As we were making our way to the entrance, we just caught a glimpse of some kilts and blazers across the enormous carpark – another Focus School had also just arrived! After making our way into the show, we walked straightaway to watch a demo from the prestigious Paul Hollywood. It was an apricot and marzipan twist… baked to near perfection!
After this, there was just time to browse a few stalls before we made our way to watch the Great British Bake Off Winner, Nadiya Hussain. Before the show started, we did a few warm ups, and we managed to do a good bit of cheering with support from Swansea Campus who were sitting behind us. After watching Nadiya’s skilful cooking demonstrations which were accompanied by numerous humorous anecdotes about her family alongside the antics of the camera man, we moved on from the supertheatre back to the hall to eat our lunch! We gorged on succulent Heck Sausages, creamy ice cream, Crispy potato twirls, moist brownie and melt in the mouth fudge, feeling substantially fuller afterwards.
For the rest of the day, we shopped to our hearts content. Everything was there, from nail buffing services to wine testing (18 and over of course) and most importantly the fudge stalls, where we managed to get some brilliant discounts!
Towards the end of the day, our feet were beginning to ache and we began a fruitless search for a can of coke that cost less than £5! Eventually, at the last stall we came to, we found some… Perfect!
Then… it was the end of the day. The journey back flew past and eventually we were back at home.
